Johana Cortez-Hernández

College Adviser Fellow, Abraham Lincoln High School

Johana was born in East Palo Alto, California from parents who immigration from Michoacan, Mexico. She is first-generation and moved across the country where she attended Connecticut College and double majored in History and Anthropology, with a certificate in Community Action and Public Policy. During undergrad, she was a part of MEChA, a national student organization that promotes higher education, community engagement, political participation, culture which orientated her to return to the Bay Area to provide the tools necessary for her students to pursue a higher education and to succeed in life. During her summers, Johana has worked with AMIGOS de las Americas cultural exchange program in the Yucatan Peninsula and Uruguay, carrying on several positions on staff working and supporting community youth on developing and initiating projects in their own communities. In her free time, she enjoys attending small music venues and backpacking.
