Yesenia Matias Chávez

College Adviser Fellow, Pioneer High School

Yesenia is the oldest daughter of two hardworking parents who migrated to the United States from Mexico and the first in her whole family (immediate and extended) to graduate from a four-year university. Yesenia attended UC Santa Cruz where she is completed her B.A. in Legal Studies and minor in Education. At UC Santa Cruz, she was an RA for two years, a member of Merrill Student Government, a Mentor/RA for Math Science Upward Bound, a writing assistant for the Young Writers Program, and even spent a quarter in Washington D.C. interning at an education nonprofit. Yesenia understands the value of programs like DCAC, she herself was a participant in college readiness programs like Upward Bound and AVID, and credits these programs for helping her succeed at UC Santa Cruz. Yesenia is passionate and ready for the next chapter of her life which includes being a resource and serving students at Pioneer High!
