Luis Murguia Rodriguez
College Adviser Fellow, Abraham Lincoln High School
Luis is a South Bay native, born and raised in East San Jose. He is a son of Mexican immigrants and a first generation college graduate. As a high school student, he aspired to pursue higher education, but lacked proper guidance due to not having access to a college adviser. With the guidance of close friends and family, he was encouraged to attend De Anza College. While at De Anza College, he quickly found community in the Puente Program, where he says they were able to bridge his desires to pursue higher education. He then transferred out and graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Anthropology and a minor in Chicanx Studies. Luis hopes to bring back his experiences as a first generation college graduate to his community and empower students to join the fight to break down the structural barriers fixed within our education system.
