San Jose Regional Manager
Esmeralda Navarro was born and raised in the East Side of San Jose. She is a first generation college graduate and daughter of immigrant parents from Jalisco, Mexico. Her passion for social justice and education began as a high school student where she was exposed to issues in her community. Esme attended UC Berkeley and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Gender and Women’s Studies. After serving as a DCAC adviser, she attended San Jose State University where she earned her Master’s in Counselor Education with a Pupil Personnel Services Credential. She worked with San Jose Unified School District as an academic counselor in comprehensive school sites and in alternative education. As the District Academic Counselor for SJUSD, she led and provided professional development to middle and high school counselors district wide. She is excited to be back with DCAC and to support advisers and students in creating opportunities for low income and underrepresented students.
