Teresa Castro is a thriving 23-year-old mother with a passion for education. Born and raised in San Jose, Ca allowed her to work and learn in diverse settings, primarily through programs such as Upward Bound and Puente. As a first generation student, Upward Bound developed a love and knowledge for higher education. Not only did that knowledge inspire her to strive for a degree, but encouraged her not to settle. She then enrolled in De Anza College’s Puente program where guidance by teachers and counselors allowed her to reach her dream of becoming a UC Berkeley graduate. After graduation, education became a calling, so she worked for a summer program that led to a position as an Associate Teacher at Voices College-Bound Language Academy. These programs and communities inspired and shaped the person she is today: Motivated to give back to the community that served and encouraged her.
