East Bay Regional Manager
Chaney was born and raised in Oakland. She stems from resilient roots; her parents/grandparents came to the U.S. as refugees from Laos. She received her B.A. in Ethnic Studies and Social Welfare from UC Berkeley and a Master’s in Higher Education from Harvard. As an undergraduate she was very involved with the multicultural student organizing spaces and advocated for marginalized communities. These organizations and her experiences growing up in a low income refugee family ignited her passion for social justice, college access, and youth development. She is committed to increasing access and success for low income and first generation students of color in higher education. Chaney is a former DCAC College Adviser and prior to returning to DCAC as a staff member, she worked as a College Adviser for UC Berkeley’s TRIO Talent Search program and as a College & Career Readiness Specialist with Oakland Unified School District.
